REBECCA & RENYI | 胡任乂 & 吕贝卡, an artist duo
proudly announce their latest project…
“superfluous” – unnecessary, especially through being more than enough
“chance”– a possibility of something happening
China as the “world’s factory” has undergone many changes, although perhaps most noticeably is its rise of wealth and with it, an overabundance of superfluous objects that drowns millions of its inhabitant’s dwellings all throughout the land. As Henry David Thoreau once wrote,
“Superfluous wealth can buy superfluities only. Money is not required to buy one necessary of the soul.”
SUPERFLUOUS CHANCE by artist duo REBECCA & RENYI |胡任乂 & 吕贝卡 sets out to explore…
＊ How do we explain excess within a communist nation?
＊ Can a redistribution of wealth be fairly executed solely based on a lottery system?
＊Does superfluous wealth equal happiness or merely superfluous objects?
REBECCA & RENYI | 胡任乂 & 吕贝卡 have already begun collaborating with Chinese Communist leaders and in preparation for this project a series of “superfluous object” collections are being held throughout Shanghai, China. Pictured are some selected pictures from various collections, which first began in March of 2015. Please check back regularly for updates on this ongoing project and to learn when you will have a chance to particpiant in the SUPERFLUOUS CHANCE lottery house, which will be announced at a later date.
